My First Weekends Here

This may sound funny, but I actually will not be spending my first weekends in the village. I got a chance to write this because I traveled to the city. I am currently in Bobo Dioulasso, the economic capital, in order to retrieve my motorbike–more like a scooter–, and in order to get a mini fridge, and the supplies I need in order to start cooking for myself.

The school has a functioning garden, and a cafeteria, which fed me for my first days here; although the food is alright, I know that I will eventually have to start doing my own thing.

Yaya, one of the work group leaders, watering some pepper plants.

This is an example of an agroforestry system, plants or vegetables growing alongside fruit trees and shrubs. I am excited for this internship...

Some of the last tomatoes for this growing season. Seasonal growing requires us to wait another year in order to have more healthy vegetables.

Next weekend, I will be heading back to Ouaga, in order to get the things I couldn’t bring with me on the first trip. And I hope that while I am up there, I will get a Sim Card and a USB modem that will enable to have the data I need to publish things, exactly as they happen.
